If you haven’t realized by now we love skateboarding… and yeah we love New York. So, it’s no surprise how much we love Go Skateboarding Day in NYC! It’s mind blowing how many people skate in this city and when everyone gets together to shred the streets this one day a year, the experience is like no other. Originating back in 2002 (originally called the All City Skate Jam) the now worldwide holiday/event has exploded in popularity. This year GSD fell on a Saturday which made the event bigger than ever.

The main event in NYC was put together by 5Boro’s Steve Rodriguez with the help of Nike and originated at Coleman/LES skate park where the day kicked off with a CCS long ollie contest soon followed by a 5Boro best trick contest. The Nike team was out and about leading the way from the LES park over the Williamsburg Bridge to a pop-up Nike skate park in Williamsburg Brooklyn.

Vans held an alternate event at the House of Vans featuring a special guest performance by Ghostface Killah and Raekwon from the Wu-Tang Clan. Everyone got to skate the bowl or the double sets out back. Afterwards both events collided around 4pm packing out Bedford Avenue in Williamsburg Brooklyn. SHUT setup an adult route (#adultgsd) which included some pub stops and at one point a classic curb session. Nike ended the night throwing a demo at the pop-up park and eventually hosting an open skate.

Overall we had a great time hitting up the streets with everyone and celebrating our love of skateboarding. Check some pics and clips below, more to follow in Part II. Huge THANK YOU to Steve Rodriguez, Nike, Vans, Michael Cohen, Ghostface, Raekwon and the Nike team for making GSD another great memory!
