Vans hosted this year’s Custom Culture design competition awards ceremony in NYC. The contest challenges high school students across 3,000 high schools to create their own unique pairs of Vans for a chance to fund their schools art education program. The challenge was based on four themes: Action Sports, Art, Music and Local Flavor. The winning design has the opportunity to be produced & sold in select Vans retail stores, as well as online at Vans.com.

Carlsbad H.S. (Carlsbad, CA) was awarded the grand prize of a $50k donation towards the school’s arts education program. The panel of judges included: actress Victoria Justice, celebrity baker Amirah Kassem, musician Bea Miller, artist and author Dallas Clayton and Vans professional surfer Joel Tudor. The top 4 remaining finalists – Circleville High School (Circleville, Ohio), Foothill High School (Henderson, N.V.), McCracken County High (Paducah, K.Y.) and Parker High School (Parker, S.D.) were awarded with $4k toward their arts programs.
