adidas Skateboarding kicks off this year’s Global Skate Copa Court tour in the Brooklyn neighborhood of New York City. Taking over courts in 12 key cities around the globe, adidas Skateboarding aims to highlight local communities and skate shops through creativity and casual competition while encouraging innovation and originality for the next generation of skaters.
The premiere event will feature team demos from the brand’s roster of skateboarders followed by an open skate shop jam that invites ten
participating local skate shops skating together for cash prizes. Rounding out the contest portion is the “adidas Blackbird Best Trick Contest”, which offers an additional $1,000 in cash prizes for the best three tricks from the participating skate shops.
The “adidas Blackbird Best Trick Contest” features a unique ‘Blackbird’ obstacle that is designed under the creative direction of select adidas team riders for different cities where the series is being held. Representing the ‘Blackbird’ obstacle design for New York City is pro team rider Tyshawn Jones , who lent his creativity and vision for the blueprint to reflect his distinctive style.
Bookending the contest, pro riders, skate shop teams, and the local community are open to skate the unique obstacles, which will feature custom artwork from hand-selected local artists. The unique obstacle(s) will be donated to the community for locals to enjoy after the event.
Tyshawn Jones and adidas Skateboarding will lead New York City’s largest annual skate event, Go Skateboarding Day for 2019. Alongside hundreds of local skaters, the Thrasher Skater of the Year and three stripes will host a full schedule inspired by Jones and the city including best trick jams, appearances by adidas team riders and more.
Go Skate Day launches full force at LES Coleman Skatepark for a series of best trick events across various custom builds and modified obstacles, followed by a half mile push through the streets toward a secret location in the city’s Lower East Side neighborhood. The undisclosed venue will house even more skate action and obstacles inspired by the unique street skating of New York City, and Tyshawn Jones. Throughout the day, participants will have the chance to win a variety of cash prizes and will be joined by adidas pros Dennis Busenitz, Na-Kel Smith, Lucas Puig, Jenn Soto, Diego Najera, Mariah Duran, and many others.
adidas Skateboarding invites the local skate community to show up and show out for one of the biggest Go Skateboarding Day events yet, celebrating Tyshawn Jones as an NYC skateboarding icon on the rise.
