Wyatt Stevens (top row middle above) is a youth advocate for the skate community in the city of Newburgh, NY is asking for your support. If you’re not familiar with Newburgh it’s a small city not too far from the Big Apple and unfortunately is considered the Murder Capitol of New York State… it even landed in the top 10 most dangerous cities in the US. On a brighter note it was also home to the iconic Newburgh indoor skate park which appeared in many skate vids throughout the 90’s.
Lately there’s been an uprising of skateboarders within the community. What was just about 10 skaters has grown into a group of 60+ of all ages. This group is now trying their best to get a skate park built and have setup an online petition at Change.org. Please make a few clicks to help them out, here’s the online petition link.
Progresss! Looks like the city is now seeking designs: http://newburghrestoration.com/blog/2013/12/16/city-seeks-rfq-from-design-firms-to-complete-skateboard-plaza/
GO FOR IT
Wow…Danny Fink and Dana…remember skating at the indoor park with you guys years ago!
newburgh is an ideal place for a skate park!! it’s the center of everywhere.
This is super important. Growing up skating in Orange Count in the 90’s after the old park closed, there were no skate parks anywhere for the most part. Newburgh is a real rough area and could really benefit from a place like this for these kids to call home.
Signed! Newburgh is not only in desperate need of a park but its location at the intersection of two major highways makes it an ideal stopping point for skaters traveling to parks in NYC and Connecticut.
