A project to redesign Cooper Square and Astor Place in the East Village has finally reached New York skateboarding’s iconic skate spot – the Astor Cube this weekend. Pics via Matthew Allison show gates have been setup cutting off access to the cube yesterday afternoon. The cube and it’s surrounding area is set to be reconstructed into a larger pedestrian plaza. In addition to the cube (“The Alamo”) the DOT will also relocate Mosaic Man’s mosaic poles into the new plaza.
