Yesterday, skateboarding lost one of it’s most positive shining lights. As Thrasher put it, “That man was absolutely, positively, a gift. Power, style, grace – he had it all.”
There isn’t much to say that hasn’t already been said about Dylan Joseph Rieder. He went from child prodigy to a veritable renaissance man with passion for life, art, music, fashion and skateboarding. His Gravis part from 2010 proved his mastery of the wooden toy that brings us all together. His impossible over the bench: simply iconic.
Outside of skateboarding, he ventured into fashion modeling for brands like DKNY. He, along with Jake Lamagno, and Steven Ditchkus opened The Hunt – a shop on New York City’s Lower East Side. He’s a rare talent that the world is now sadly missing today.
Dylan’s family has asked in lieu of sending flowers, for donations to be made in Dylan’s memory to Dr. Stephen Forman. Please address checks to; City of Hope, in memo line to Dr. Stephen Forman for Dylan Rieder. The money will go to helping fund research breakthrough cancer treatments.
