We joined SHUT, Fool’s Gold and the Harold Hunter Foundation at the House of Vans in Brooklyn last night for a premiere of the music video for “Ride For Me” (A-Trak, Falcons, Young Thug & 24hrs). Eli Morgan Gesner created the video using his vintage 90’s hi-8 footage featuring Harold Hunter, Justin Pierce, Jeff Pang, Mike Hernandez, Peter Bici, Hamilton Harris and Chappy. The event included open skate with music by A-Trak, Brujas, Falcons and Nasty Nigel. Fool’s Gold had some merch for sale including a limited edition Ride For Me deck featuring a screen grab from the video… all sales went to the Harold Hunter Foundation. Goose Island hooked up the beers for 21+ and pizza was provided by Williamsburg Pizza. A-Trak and Eli Morgan Gesner introduced the video and let it run on repeat for the remainder of the event while heads got to skate. Photos from the event below followed by the actual video.
A-Trak and Young Thug have been recording together since 2013 and accumulating a stack of songs. Finally ready to start revealing this material, A-Trak chose “Ride For Me” for its jaw-dropping (and possibly jaw-breaking) vocal performance. You’ve never heard Young Thug like this. His voice is elastic, self-distorted, at times barely human or intelligible, and at other times familiar and bouncy. As a turntablist and sound manipulator, A-Trak was entranced by Thug’s shape-shifting. To round off the song, Trizzy brought in another close friend with an otherworldly voice, Atlanta’s own 24hrs, along with rising Fool’s Gold star Falcons on the production tip. “Ride For Me” is a speaker-busting rollercoaster ride that defies traditional song structure and will playlist your whole year.
